A Good Idea Now And Then....

So, every now and then I have a brilliant idea about costuming. Lately, I have not had the time nor the energy to do some costuming due to work. I have very little energy to drag out and set up the sewing machine. Then, I had a great idea to start hand sewing at least the side seams of my first Regency dress. So, [livejournal.com profile] sadievale and I decided to get together to sew at her house. I drew lines with a yardstick on the fabric to denote the seam after making sure the panels were pinned correctly. I cannot draw and/or sew a line to save my life. [livejournal.com profile] sadievale decided to proceed with a new project of creating a beautiful jacket out of silk taffeta. Her skills really are amazing and impressive. By the time I had the side seams repinned, the lines drawn, and had started backstitching the seam, she had her project cut, pinned, And ready to start hand sewing her project as well. She also gave me some thorough and great instruction/feedback as to how to sew a great running stitch instead of a backstitch which is so much more time efficient. It was a great and relaxing time to be able to listen to two great great movies and to finally make some some headway on the dress by hand sewing with a great friend!

Side Seams Finally Repinned

Okay, so there was some drama that prompted me to stop sewing the Regency Dress. Originally, I had cut out the front and back lining of the dress. (Note: I was not planning to line the dress.) As one would imagine, this caused quite a bit of heartache. Since then, honestly, there was a moderate amount of lack of motivation to finish the dress. That all changed when [livejournal.com profile] sadievale and I went to the Va Renaissance Faire. We met [livejournal.com profile] jennylafleur and [livejournal.com profile] isabelladangelo who were in costume. We enjoyed people watching, hair braiding, and shopping. This left [livejournal.com profile] sadievale and I very motivated to sew on Sunday. After figuring out which piece of the pattern I was missing, re-ironing the fabric, and ripping out the other side seam. (Note: I am so proud this process of ripping out the other side seam only took about an hour and ten minutes. This is a great achievement. Trust me.) I then bid [livejournal.com profile] sadievale goodbye and came home to pin the correct pieces together watching Bridget Jone's Diary. An awesome way to spend part of the weekend!

Va Renn Faire

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if there were still people who wanted to go to the Faire so we could finalize plans.

Sleeves On And Side Seams Sewn!

I am writing this to celebrate that I survived The Curse of the Sleeves unscathed and only mildly traumatized. I ran into some gathering issues, but managed to pin those evil little devils down and sew them. They actually look neat and tidy! Better than a home economics project of shame! The side seams of the skirt have also been sewn as well! Kudos to isabelladangelo for a suggestion of marking the sleeves after cutting them out to assist oneself through The Curse of The Sleeves. Before I removed the pattern pieces from the skirt fabric, I marked the front and back of the skirt! I can't wait for the dress to be finished!

Persuasion '95

Tonight, I am taking a break from sewing and scheming a spencer/pelisse for my next project. All the while intently watching Persuasion (1995) and sipping Fortnum & Mason Strawberry Black Tea! Thank You Sadievale!

Sleeve Binding On!

Good News! The sleeve binding on both sleeves of my Regency dress has been hand sewn completely by myself and it doesn't look like one of those badly sewn home economics sewing products! Hehehe!

Still no dress.....Have no idea how to use pattern-ease

Alright, so no dress has been made . I was going to try to make a shift for 18th century dress but the pattern itself is filmsy. I am concerned about tearing the pattern and I am in the process of losing weight and would like to preserve the pattern as much as possible. I have lost 10.6 pounds so far. (God bless Weight Watchers!) What is even worse......I have no idea how to use the pattern-ease! On top of everything, I have been going through a lot of personal issues lately, so I have not even thought about sewing or any other art/craft. God hopefully will pull me through, but I sometimes have my doubts......

No Renaissance Dress But Hand Sewing!

Ok, so here is the update. The pattern for Renaissance Dress was cut out, but was too tight. I went back and got the next size up. Unfortunately, I have not had time to cut it out. *Moo* On the flip side, sadievale and her mom are teaching me to hand sew. More pictures to come so everyone can see my progress.....
